They have sailed on 6 Perini Navi sailing yachts in the Caribbean, Yucatan, Western Mediterranean and North Sea. Both love the outdoors, their last adventure saw them mountain biking and kayaking in the Yukon and Alaska last summer. Guy is MCA Class 4 certified and Lucia has her STCW95 safety certification. Languages spoken are English, Italian and Spanish.
First Mate: Franck Roux
Franck was born in Grenoble, France and served in the French Navy for 4 years. He has sailed on a number of very fine ocean cruising and exquisite vintage wooden classic sailing yachts as both Captain and First Mate. He worked with Guy and Lucia in the past on board the 64 meter Perini Navi “Felicita west”. He is a keen sailor with MCA Class 4 certification and is an ISPS Shipboard Security Officer. Franck is fluent in French, English and Spanish.
Chief Engineer: Ryan McLean
Ryan, a South African from Durban, has plenty of experience with engineering on “Is a Rose” being his third Perini Navi yacht to date. He knows the systems well and works hard to keep things running smoothly. Ryan is a keen wake boarder who enjoys a game of squash and has a love for sailing. Ryan is currently upgrading his MCA Class 4 Engineers certificate.
Chef: Hagen Exner
Hagen’s professional sailing career started on the 43 meter Perini Navi “S/Y Paz” with Guy and Lucia in 1991, where he established himself as head chef on a select number of high profile charter mega yachts. He is truly a talented culinary master and his passion for life is ever present in the galley masterpieces he creates, guaranteed to please the palate of all guests on board. Born in Sweden and raised in Canada, Hagen played top level football, ice hockey, rugby and is an expert downhill skier. Other hobbies include golfing, tennis, mountain biking and sailing. Hagen has his STCW95 safety certification.
Bosun: Antonin Belik
Antonin is from Prauge, Czechoslovakia and he grew up on Sardinia, the island sailing paradise of Italy. Tony has skippered ocean going sailing yachts, and has charter and private yachting experience in the Mediterranean, Caribbean and Australian Great Barrier Reef. Tony worked together with Franck on the modern classic 38 meter sailing yacht “Alejandra” in 2002. Hobbies include water skiing, scuba diving, sailing and most water sports. Tony is fluent in English, Czech, Italian and is learning to speak Spanish.
2nd Engineer: James Foulkes-Jones
James, a fine young Englishman from a yachting family, has a mechanical background and splits his time and talent between the running of the deck and engineering. His parents were established in the yachting community 30 years ago making James a true blue blood yacht crew member. He is a very keen wake boarder and enjoys watching DVD’s to relax after a hard days work. James has his STCW95 safety certification.
2nd Stewardess: Kelly Riley
Kelly is American from Louisiana, and she makes sure everyone on board is happy. She enjoys the challenge of making her guests feel 100% cared for while on board. She has a wealth of experience having sailed on many fine sailing yachts, cruising the Atlantic, Mediterranean, Caribbean and South Pacific. She especially enjoyed being in New Zealand for the America Cup on board the 53 meter Perini Navi “Independence”, being one of many of the large sailing yachts Kelly has served on. She runs in the morning to keep fit and enjoys scuba diving. Home is Rhode Island when she is not sailing.
3rd Stewardess: Sara Mardsen
Sara is a Kiwi from Wellington, North Island of New Zealand. She joined “Is a Rose” after crossing the Atlantic on the beautiful classic wooden sailing yacht “Cambria”.
