MA HA Crew Profile

Harvey Rogers, born in 1973, from Gloucestershire, England, has been a keen seaman from a young age. After achieving a bachelor degree in marketing Harvey managed restaurants, food export, and was an area manager in the retail sector before leaving the UK to follow a passion for the ocean. Teaching diving, power boating and sailing led Harvey through Thailand, Egypt, The Maldives and Bermuda to the Caribbean where he has a lot of experience sailing and motoring throughout the Caribbean chain, and particularly The British Virgin Islands, which he and Cara now call home.  Harvey is a certified RYA Ocean Yachtmaster for sail and power (offshore).  His dry British humour and one liners are always a great hit with guests, and the stories he tells about the islands and adventures at sea bring his previous guests back time and again.

Cara Rogers, completed a Performing Arts Degree in London, followed by an English teaching qualification in Egypt. She left England for sunnier surroundings and pursued a career in diving in Thailand where she met Harvey. Following a diving path from Thailand through Bermuda to The British Virgin Islands, Cara finally settled into a culinary career, training at the Ashburton School of Cookery and the prestigious Ritz Hotel in Paris.

Her passion for originality, combined with French training, produces astounding culinary masterpieces. The smile on her face just tells you that whatever cuisine reaches your plate will be awesome, and coupled with various wines the combinations are out of this world. Vacationers are always delighted with the exceptional quality of the cuisine available on board the catamaran Ma Ha. This award winning chef will cater to any special requests or dietary requirements and will even create an exciting menu for children. A fine wine goes hand in hand with fine food and Ma Ha carries an excellent selection of house wines and will happily source any special requests.

Harvey's calm and competent attitude makes for very relaxed sailing, and he is complimented perfectly by Cara's overt and gregarious nature. Harvey and Cara's years of experience in providing superb customer service ensure unforgettable memories, and a truly exceptional Caribbean yacht charter experience.

MA HA Testimonials

JAN 10-17-14

We found the Maha in excellent condition with a very knowledgeable and approachable crew. Elsa was delightful, friendly and an excellent Chef and handled her assigned tasks around the boat in a very professional manner for someone with so little time afloat. Andrew was a constant source of info and very patient about answering our question about sailing and the local area. He also spent quite a bit of time ashore with us acting as a guide and pointing out details we would have missed if left on or own.  The only black mark on the trip was the one night stay at the hotel at the end of our cruise. That location you recommended was substandard in just about every category. I would recommend highly that you remove them from any list you might provide your customers in the future. We did relocate to the Marriot's Frenchmans Reef which was also excellent and I'm sure more to a charter customers standard.

All in all a very enjoyable vacation and from what I hear from the family we'll be going again.

 Best Regards,

Was the crew Friendly and Accommodating?

Our crew felt more like family than “crew”.  They were welcoming, warm, courteous, and always very helpful.

Elsa made the most amazing food, and Andrew knows that boat like the back of his hand (he also makes one amazing Painkiller)

Was MaHa comfortable and clean?

It was always clean, and very comfortable.  The beds were exceptionally cozy! There were plenty of places to throw a pillow and nap, or cuddle up and watch a movie at night.

Was MaHa well ventilated?

We were never too hot, of course we were happy to be in 85 degrees as opposed to back home a chilly 5 degrees.  I left my hatch open one night and woke up to raindrops…figured out moving forward to just turn the air on at bedtime J

How was the food and presentation?

The food was always different and always perfectly portioned.  We were never hungry!  We had Sushi, South African desserts, cheese platters, and many more delicious things.  I think I gained a few pounds actually.  Breakfast was my favorite.  To wake up to a fresh pot of coffee, homemade pancakes with bacon, and fresh fruit…outstanding!

Did you like the sailing areas?

Andrew did a great job keeping us busy and showing us things that most people don’t know about.  The sailing was superb!  We have so many gorgeous photos of the boat, crew, and islands.  I will forward some when I get a chance to take them off my camera.

Is there anything else I could of done to help prepare for your charter?

The only thing I would recommend is if people are staying over the night before or the night after their charter (in St Thomas) send them to The Marriot at Frenchman’s Cove.  It was the perfect ending to our perfect charter vacation.  Really excellent food, service, and the view wasn’t bad either.

Please write additional comments…

We will truly miss Elsa and Andrew.  In fact, we have already said that we’ll be back and when we plan that vacation we’re hoping to get them back as our crew.  They were just so perfect in every possible way.

Thank you!

Warm Regards

Guests aboard Ma Ha for Christmas week, 2011.

I just completed a charter on Ma Ha, your beautiful yacht.  First, thank you for making it available.  I own a home on the ocean in Maine that I rent from time to time, and I know the angst it can cause.

I wanted to drop you a quick note to let you know what an exceptional skipper you have in Andrew Ball.  It can be very difficult for an absentee owner to evaluate management, so I thought I would share my observations with you.  I am sure that you don't need me to tell you that Andrew is an excellent sailor and maintains your yacht with meticulous vigor.  What you may not know, is how far Andrew goes to ensure your guests happiness.  By way of example, I wanted to surprise my wife with a massage.  Andrew arranged to pick up a masseuse on the tender, bring him on board, and then return him after the massage.  When the time came, there were substantial swells and I fully expected to have cancel the massage.  Andrew wouldn't hear of it.  Instead he donned foul weather gear, brought an extra set for the masseuse and braved the elements.  This was but one of many examples.

I thought you should know.  Happy Holidays and best wishes for the new year.

What an incredible “once in a lifetime” Christmas/New Year experience we had! My family and I would 1000% recommend Andrew and Jennifer to anyone looking for a wonderfully personalized charter experience. They were both knowledgeable, professional and fun to be with. They worked together like a well oiled machine which made life very easy and comfortable on the boat. It is unusual that each of my four children had only positive comments about both of them! We really enjoyed their company.

When we arrived, Andrew and Jennifer were there to greet us with open arms and smiles. The Ma Ha was beautiful, comfortable and immaculately kept throughout the charter.

The meals were so delicious. Jennifer is an excellent chef and each meal surpassed our expectations. She really labored over presentation and making sure that all of our food requests were met. My kids are still talking about the Thai lunch we had. We may have to call her for the recipe! There was never a meal that we did not enjoy.

Andrew was very accommodating with any request we may have had. When my one son was sick, he readily took my younger son tubing for the afternoon. He has a lovely disposition and was friendly and wonderful with the kids. Both Andrew and Jennifer were awesome about getting us great reservations for New Year’s Eve. We shared dinner with them on shore and we rang in the New Year with our new friends!

From the immediate attention from >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> to the friendly phone call from Jen about last minute food needs right before the trip, to the impeccable service and treatment from Andrew and Jennifer, our trip was the perfect family vacation.

I would recommend Andrew and Jennifer, the crew of the Ma Ha to anyone who will listen! I hope to book another charter next year with them!!
