AVALON A new launch for September, 2010, AVALON represents the latest achievement in charter catamaran design from Lagoon. 5 spacious queen-berth guest suites, all en-suite, an open and airy saloon with a nearly 360 degree view, and a wide flybridge all come together to create floating elegance, style, and utility. Combine these excellent design factors with an outstanding and experienced crew and you find AVALON, a little bit of chartering-heaven, floating in the British Virgin Islands.

If you are in need of some time in Paradise then Paul and Melissa can take you there on Avalon. An experienced and charming couple with whom you can feel comfortable and relaxed and who delight in ensuring their guests have the vacation of a lifetime.
Paul is from Greater Manchester, UK, and has been sailing since the age of four. He was brought up dinghy sailing and successfully campaigned many highly competitive seasons in dinghy classes. He has also raced in several offshore races and completed yacht deliveries in the Irish Sea, North Sea, Caribbean Sea, and Trans-Atlantic. With such a love of the sea it was only natural that Paul wanted to add the qualifications to match his experience and established his career as a charter yacht captain.
For two years Paul studied Watersports Activity Leadership at College at Falmouth Marine School. He is a Commercially Endorsed Yachtmaster Offshore as well as an RYA Senior Dinghy Instructor, RNLI trained beach lifeguard and a PADI open water diver. Paul enjoys windsurfing, wakeboarding, kneeboarding and saltwater fishing. When sailing in open water, Paul always encourages his guests to catch a Tuna or Mahi Mahi for Melissa to create wonderfully fresh meals.
Melissa is from Cheshire, UK and was also brought up sailing dinghies from a young age. She has always enjoyed entertaining and gained her formal culinary training at the Rosie Davies Cookery School. Modern European and Asian style dishes are a speciality, but all of Melissa’s menus are tailored to her guests’ specific preferences and are created with a health conscious ethos. You will feel just as safe with Melissa at the helm as Paul. Melissa is also a Commercially Endorsed Yachtmaster Offshore, an RYA Dinghy Instructor, RYA Powerboat Instructor and PADI open water diver.
When she’s not reading gastro magazines or experimenting with new recipes, Melissa enjoys all watersports, photography and horse riding.
Paul and Melissa both love children and welcome families onboard. Paul is happy to entertain the children with beach games and fun packed days in and on the water. And coming from a large family he has plenty of experience! Meanwhile Melissa will more than happily cater to the children’s tastes so that they too have a vacation to remember.
Together Paul and Melissa will make sure you enjoy your vacation on Avalon at your own pace. Either action packed and on the go, or if you prefer moving to the beat of a slower drum, Paul will happily make you one of his mouth watering cocktails while you indulge in reading a good book. However you want to spend your vacation, Paul and Melissa look forward to welcoming you onboard Avalon and showing you Paradise.

AVALON Testimonials
From guests aboard Avalon in June, 2011:
Dear Paul and Mel,
I cannot tell you how many times I think of you two and wonder ........how did they do everything they did??!!! Our children are back in school and all reports written about the summer ( as teachers always make students do ) are all about the big boat trip ( which is rather discouraging considering how much effort I put into the other 10 weeks ). You worked so hard, but made it look so effortless. You were constantly meeting our every need ....and thinking of TONS of fun pampering treats we never even imagined!
Paul, to you we say thank you for all the fun snorkeling and diving excursions, the tube and wake boarding, the exotic boat drinks, superb dinning service, entertaining stories, magical sunsets ( yes , it did seem that you even arranged those ) and sailing! Mel , to you we thank the 10 delicious pounds we gained, cooking lessons, clean cabins ( we still cannot figure out when you tidied up everything ) , great anchoring, and stories about England and Paul (oops, maybe we won't admit we know those !) It sounds as if Mel is getting less praise, but not so, her food counted for a lot ... it was truly fabulous!
You are a fantastic team that works together like a well oiled machine, or an old married couple....always making us feel like we were part of the family ( and by the end of the too-short week we felt as if we were leaving family). Now is probably a good time to apologize for the overly emotional goodbye (I know how you Britt’s hate that mushy stuff) and you were probably right refusing our pleas to come home with us. We do still have that spare room...ahem.
Seriously, thank you for your outstanding service. We have the utmost respect and praise for the two of you. You are both tops in your field and we are very fortunate to have spent this time with you.
Sincerely,
Pete and Heidi and Family Melbourne , Florida

From guests aboard Avalon in mid February, 2011
Trina the trip was fantastic on all fronts. Avalon is perfectly appointed and smartly laid out (still felt spacious even with 8 guys who tend to tread somewhat heavily).
I can't say enough about captain Paul and Mel. While we weren't exactly sure what we were looking for in a captain, Paul did it all and made it look easy. He charted a perfect course for the team, delivered 5-star service at every turn and was a great dude to hang out with. As for Mel, her cooking blew us away. Not only did the quality of ingredients exceed expectations but her creativity and execution made us feel as if we were in a top notch NYC restaurant.
From guests aboard in February, 2011
We returned on Sunday evening from a week in the BVI aboard Avalon with captain Paul Johnson and chef Marie. Our week was absolutely perfect -- every need was anticipated and met, the boat was absolutely spotless and the meals were some of the best we have ever had. Paul could not have taken better care of the boat if it were his own, and we are all missing Marie's wonderful food. Though we know it was stressful for Paul, the unexpected departure of Mel and subsequent arrival of Marie was seamless and handled in a remarkably professional manner. Paul's maturity is commendable. Thanks for a fabulous week -- we're already talking about our next trip but it will be hard to match our week aboard Avalon!.
From the Thierer family, early January, 2011
Dear Paul and Mel,
Happy New Year! We hope your second charter was as fun as your first one. We really enjoyed the trip – the relaxing, water sports, chilling, snorkeling, diving, the food, and especially your service. You can count on seeing us in the future.
Best wishes for a great new year. Mark, Nasrin, Jon and Stephanie
From the Carlsons, Christmas week 2010
Hi Paul & Mel:
Happy New Year from the first graduating class of Avalon! We can’t think of enough superlatives for week we had with together with the both of you and we can’t wait to do it again! In the mean time, let us know if you would like to use us for a “proper” reference/referral (sorry Paul…my girls can’t help themselves to use your characterization all the time for it’s the only right way to do something).
We thought you might appreciate the fish we caught that we could eat at our place in Florida on New Year’s Eve…a 27” black grouper! I’m sure Mel you could have prepared it much better than we, but we certainly enjoyed it.
We have a number of photos we’d like to send you of Avalon to use as you wish. Your card doesn’t have the Road Town mailing address so, please let me know where you would like the Flash Drive sent.
All the best for 2011! Rollie
