CREW PROFILE

Rainy Venter - Captain

Born in South Africa, Captain Rainy's first steps were in the beach sand of "Umhlanga Rocks" where he started surfing at the tender age of 9 years old. Soon salt water was running deep in his veins. With Bronze Beach as his back yard, his every free minute was spent surfing, fishing or free diving for lobster. After school he studied Sports Turf Management at the University of Pretoria, and worked on some of South Africa's supreme golf courses...

But the magnetism of the Indian Ocean was too strong, so he returned to his home beach where he became a professional lifeguard before stepping off the beach and choosing a life at sea, by joining the yachting industry. To date, he has sailed two Atlantic Ocean crossings, the Mediterranean Sea, Caribbean Sea, and the North East coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean. He holds a 200 ton Ocean Master of Yachts license in addition to, Advanced sea survival, AEC Engineering and First Aid certificates. Rainy's interests include Scuba diving, sailing, surfing, fishing and playing guitar.
