Scuba Diving in the Virgin Islands

Diving in the Virgin Islands where underwater visibility may reach more than 100 feet is always a thrill. The Virgin Islands are volcanic outcrops of a vast underwater plateau that stretches for more than 70 miles where the Caribbean meets the Atlantic. St Thomas, St John, Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke, Anegada, and more than 60 other smaller islands form a protective ring around the crystal-clear aquamarine water known as the Sir Francis Drake Channel. They create a sheltered paradise of secluded coves, calm shores and sweeping beaches. This extraordinary setting provides outstanding underwater visibility, healthy coral and a wide variety of exotic dive sites, with water temperatures between 79 and 83 degrees Fahrenheit year-round. Countless reefs, towering coral pinnacles, underwater caves, lava tunnels, canyons, massive boulders and grottoes are strewn across this vast submerged shelf, creating a choice of dive sites that range from shallows for the novice snorkeller to dramatic sea caverns and extraordinary shipwrecks for the experienced scuba diver.

ONBOARD DIVING:

ONBOARD diving is the best choice if you plan to scuba dive from the yacht: Your Captain and you will choose the dive site - you sail up to the site - hook up to a mooring ball - dive in some of the world's best diving waters, and when you're done you climb back aboard your yacht to be met by the chef with a most welcome snack. NON-CERTIFIED DIVERS:

If some of your party would like to dive, but they are not certified divers, this can either be done onboard from a boat with a certified dive instructor, or by arrangement with a local dive shop. Click Here for More Info on Yachts Which Offer Onboard Diving

RENDEZVOUS DIVING:

Also great is rendezvous diving, offered by almost all the yachts, where arrangements are made with a local dive shop to meet your yacht. Diving is then done from the dive shop boat with their group. You are returned to your yacht at the end of the dive.
