Will’s passion for sailing took hold at a young age when he first learned the skills in his harbourside hometown of Guernsey in the UK. Years later he hopped onboard the 30m racing sloop Leopard 3 as deckhand and kicked off his yachting career. Next he racked up some serious nautical miles cruising New Zealand, the Pacific, the Caribbean and the Mediterranean. His role as second mate onboard Baltic’s cutting-edge ketch Hetarios took him to far flung corners of the globe including the Southern Ocean around Cape Horn, and into the Arctic. Shoreside, you can find Will high on a mountain either skiing, climbing, or mountaineering. During an expedition to the Indian Himalayas he climbed to an impressive altitude of almost 7000m.

Mel hails from a seaside town on the rugged coast of Northern Ireland. It’s here that her love of the sea began as a family affair; her parents taught her to sail and how to drive power boats. At 11 years old she moved on to racing small keel boats and discovered a passion she wished to pursue further in life. Since then she’s volunteered with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and the Sea Cadets UK, completed a Foundational Degree in Operational Yacht Science, became qualified as a Yachtmaster Offshore, and earned her yachting stripes with 2 years and 4 Atlantic crossings as deckhand on the mighty 62m schooner, SY Athos. Melissa loves being on the water whether it’s sailing, snorkeling or fishing, and on land she enjoys yoga and running.

Born in Germany, Sara moved to South Africa at the age of three, where she spent her childhood on the beach and riding horses. She studied at the Silwood School of Cookery in Cape Town and earned her Grand Diploma. After graduation she dabbled in teaching, recipe development, and food styling before she decided to become a private chef. She travelled across Europe and Central America cooking for families in their villas, where she gained in-depth experience in managing various dietary requirements, preferences and menu planning. Three years ago, she launched her yachting career when she joined Motor Yacht Polar Star as Sous Chef. Sara is a firm believer in using only the freshest, seasonal and locally sourced ingredients to create beautiful, unpretentious food that’s full of flavour. She’s also a passionate baker and loves anything to do with the outdoors.
